Bookstores prepare 63 activities for holiday

With the Spring Festival approaching, the major bookstores of Shenzhen Book City have planned 63 festival-themed activities to provide a cultural feast with Chinese charm for residents.

From Saturday, eve of Chinese New Year (CNY), to Jan. 27, the series of activities including concerts, a parent-child children’s book fair, a magic show, a popular science winter camp, a creative handicraft workshop and a traditional culture exhibition, will be staged offline and online.

During the Spring Festival holiday, the CBD Store of Shenzhen Book City will center on the theme of “Reading, Music, Aesthetics” and organize a number of artistic performances such as concerts and live performances.

It will also host a sharing session of children’s picture books, a popular science winter camp, a literature sharing session and themed exhibitions about paper art.

Shenzhen Book City’s Nanshan Store will hold a series of literary and artistic activities, such as concerts about classical music and traditional Chinese music, a magic show, Hanfu shows, and New Year’s song appreciation.

Immersive reading spaces have been planned from the first to the fourth floor in Shenzhen Book City’s Luohu Store, which has also set up themed book exhibitions for teenagers and children.

A zodiac works exhibition of Chen Xiangbo, curator of Guan Shanyue Art Museum, is a highlight at the Luohu store. The Chen-created paintings for the Year of the Rabbit, a series of works about the rabbit BOBOTU and themed books for the Year of the Rabbit will also be exhibited.

The Bao’an and Longhua stores of Shenzhen Book City have organized a slew of cultural activities for readers to enjoy a fun-filled holiday as well.

Shenzhen Book City’s Longgang Store, in cooperation with dozens of high-quality publishers, plans to launch over 20 promotional activities for book sales, offering readers a discount of up to 32% off. The Longgang store will also set up eight characteristic exhibitions about books, lifestyle, culture and creativity.
