Teens reminded to obey rules when riding e-bike

Two teens surnamed Ye and Deng were hit by a car while riding an e-bike on the wrong side of a road in Longhua District recently. The teens took full responsibility for the accident, sources from the city’s traffic police bureau said.

According to the traffic police officers, both teenagers are 14 and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Aside from driving on the wrong side of the road, Ye and Deng violated traffic rules by not wearing a helmet. Ye, who was the driver, took full responsibility for the case.

As per the city’s e-bike management rules, a citizen will be fined 200 yuan (US$29.5) for not wearing a helmet while riding and will be fined 500 yuan for riding a non-motorized vehicle on a motorway, according to the city’s traffic safety regulations.

Traffic police said that the two teens riding fast on their e-bikes on a motorway causing high risks.

They reminded parents to educate their children to obey traffic rules. As per the country’s traffic safety laws, one must be at least 16 years old to ride an e-bike.
