The Shenzhen Medical Academy of Research and Translation (SMART) recently announced a recruitment plan, Shenzhen Economic Daily reported Thursday.

It was SMART’s first large-scale staff recruitment, offering 30 positions for 41 qualified personnel.

In March 2021, the Shenzhen Municipal Government issued the SMART Construction Plan. From 2022 to 2025, the construction period, SMART will complete the infrastructure construction and equipment purchase, basically finishing the construction of the first batch of research institutes and centers. It aims to establish three to five influential research institutes in the country.

Chinese structural biologist Yan Ning announced in November last year that she would join in the SMART program. The move came amid efforts by the country to attract more top talent to return to China for opportunities and development.

The establishment of the new medical academy in Shenzhen is one of the main projects in building a pilot demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

According to the plan, an academic authority will be the highest organ in the academy.

The recruitment plan showed that the academy respects the scarcity of scientific research talents, and it will implement a market-oriented salary structure.

On Dec. 10 last year, SMART was unveiled. Yan said at the unveiling ceremony that she would strive to build SMART into a center of innovation, biopharmaceutical talent training and scientific research.

At present, there are four medical academies in Shenzhen. According to the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) for the development of health care in Shenzhen, the city government supports the academies to gradually expand enrollment.
