National opera troupes to grace Longgang

The China National Opera House and the China National Opera & Dance Drama Theater will grace Longgang during the Second Longgang Opera Week.

Excerpts from the Chinese opera “The White-haired Girl” will be performed and analyzed. Created in 1945, it blends traditional Chinese folk art with Western opera elements.

‘Carmen’

The China National Opera House will perform “Carmen,” a searing depiction of a woman who craves love, but creates obsession and jealousy. Bizet’s “Carmen” is one of the most popular operas ever written. It is the source of many memorable and widely recognized songs.

‘Yellow River Cantata’

The opera house choir will sing “Yellow River Cantata” composed by Xian Xinghai in 1939. Composed during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, “Yellow River Cantata” was inspired by a patriotic poem by Guang Weiran. The poem was adapted as the cantata lyrics.
