SZ honored for pioneering in global image

Shenzhen was recognized as a Pioneering Chinese City in Building a Global Image at the second Forum on Global Communication of Chinese Cities in Haikou, Hainan Province, today.

The city was given this award with nine other major cities in China including Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

Shenzhen’s Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone received the award of Successful Cases in International Communication of Chinese Cities.

A name list of the 10 Chinese cities that win the award is projected on stage at the forum.

Officials from more than 50 cities and experts from high-end think tanks gathered together to discuss and offer suggestions from multiple perspectives on the building of international communications capacity.

Wu Jun, director general of the Information Office of Shenzhen Municipal Government, made a keynote speech at the forum. Wu said that over the past decades Shenzhen has accumulated a “rich ore” of Shenzhen stories and famed events from international narrators. The city will encourage local residents, think tanks, enterprises, colleges and institutions’ overseas offices to continue to actively illustrate and share their Shenzhen stories.

She also mentioned that Shenzhen will address the need to cultivate global communication talent and introduce related overseas talents.

Xu Bu, president of the Chinese Institute of International Studies, said according to the institute’s research, the global influence of Chinese cities continues to be enhanced. A relatively mature system of international communication now exists in several cities.

At the forum, the Analysis Report on the Overseas Influence of Chinese Cities (2022) was released. The report includes around 100 Chinese provincial capital cities, sub-provincial cities, and characteristic cities as the research objects, conducts evaluation and analysis of the overseas influence of the cities, and provides relevant references for the cities.
