Shenzhen's Urban Design Promotion Center released a solicitation notice, inviting international designers to enter a competition for Xili Lake greenway’s design, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday.

As a significant part of the Xili Lake International Science and Education City’s ecological construction, the greenway connects the area’s major parks, higher education and R&D institutions, communities and industrial parks.

The corridor combines slow traffic and natural landscape, aiming to become the city’s first cultural and economic community around a lake.

The planned greenway has a total length of about 15 kilometers, where an almost 3-kilometer demonstration section has been completed. The design for the rest of the 12-kilometer section is soliciting for international bidders.

Nanshan District’s construction department, the international competition’s organizer, said it is collecting creative and comprehensive conceptual designs, aiming to build a greenway that highlights Shenzhen’s mountain and sea resources and showcases the city’s unique characteristics.

The competition adopts the global public application method, without qualification restrictions.

Domestic and international design institutions can apply for participation, and consortium applications will also be accepted. Five design institutions, including consortiums, will be shortlisted to enter the finals through prequalification.

This May, the conceptual design scheme, featuring a world vision, international standards and high positioning will be unveiled to the public.
