Tiger’s claw (Erythrina variegata) 刺桐

Also called Indian coral tree, this deciduous tree is native to warm coastal areas of tropical and subtropical India and Malaysia. In Shenzhen it is recognized as a messenger of the spring as it blossoms in late winter or early spring before the leaves emerge. Carrying dense terminal clusters of crimson flowers, the trees are visible in Shenzhen Bay Park, Honghu Park, Donghu Park, and Lianhua Hill Park. Photos by Wang Haolan
