A delegation of Hong Kong media outlet executives visited BYD at its Pingshan District headquarters Saturday during their three-day tour of Guangdong Province.

At BYD’s exhibition hall, the automaker’s latest car models were on display. Visitors showed interest in these cars, inquiring more about the vehicles’ information. Some even got in the driver’s seat to test their comfort. Among the models, a red concept sports car stole the spotlight, attracting the media executives to take photos.

BYD, founded in Shenzhen in February 1995, has its business covering electronics, automotives, renewable energy and rail transit. The company was listed on the Hong Kong and Shenzhen stock exchanges and entered the Fortune Global 500 in 2022. In the same year, BYD saw its 3 millionth new energy vehicle off the production line.

The visitors were also in awe of BYD’s 5-meter-high wall filled with patent certificates issued by different countries. The company, devoted to technological innovation, has applied for patents for its 32,000 projects around the world. By the end of April 2021, 21,000 certificates had been awarded.

Members of the Hong Kong delegation were also introduced to the company’s e-platform, DM-i ultra-low fuel consumption system, blade battery and the DiPilot autonomous driving system. These high-tech products showed how BYD is exploring solutions to safe, intelligent and highly efficient autonomous driving and multidimensional transportation.

According to the website wenweipo.com, Pingshan District, where BYD is located, is home to a number of leading manufacturing companies and national sophisticated and specialized companies such as Shenzhen HwaGen Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. and Insight Lifetech Co. Ltd.

In 2022, Pingshan’s R&D investment accounted for 6% of its gross domestic product (GDP), which stood at 107.96 billion yuan (US$15.52 billion).
