Futian District piloted setting up fixed time periods and locations at office buildings for workers to discard food delivery waste in a bid to facilitate waste disposal work and raise people’s attention to waste reduction, according to Shenzhen Evening News.

Demonstration sites for delivery waste sorting were built at Liantai Building and Donghai International Center in Xiangmuhu Subdistrict. The commercial buildings with a large flow of people are actively exploring scientific garbage sorting systems for commercial buildings, according to the report.

Each floor in the office buildings has three different color trash bins to hold kitchen waste, delivery packaging waste and other wastes, respectively.

According to incomplete statistics, Shenzhen consumers produce about 1 billion takeaway boxes every year, and commercial buildings are key destinations for food deliveries. However, many people don’t know how to sort garbage correctly.

The move aims to raise people’s awareness of garbage sorting and waste reduction.
