A citizen surnamed Jiang told Shenzhen Special Zone Daily on Monday that the straps of the support devices of floss-silk trees (Ceiba speciosa) near the main entrance of Lianhua Hill Park in Futian District were seen digging deep into the trees’ bark which might threaten the trees’ growth.

Following the clues Jiang provided, a Daily reporter visited the site and saw the tree scars left from the tight straps.

“These floss-silk trees are very beautiful. We need to protect them well,” Jiang said, who hoped that related park and tree maintenance departments could take good care of the trees, keep updated about the trees’ situations and improve maintenance once the support devices are broken or haven’t been changed for a long time.

The reporter also visited several other roads in Futian District and found that some tree support straps were too tight, digging into trees. On Caitian Road, some straps were even separated from the support devices.

Several trees, located at the west side of Fuzhong 1st Road as well as the roadside of Shangbao East 3rd Road, were found withering.

At present, garden maintenance companies are checking on the situation. Gardening technicians said that they will mark the withered trees during patrols and then report it to experts for confirmation. After this, they will replace the old, withered trees with new ones, according to the report.
