Meaning:

“无痛”means “painless,” and “攒钱” means “saving money.” A popular practice among the Chinese young, this refers to the scenario where people save small sums of money for the short term so as not to give up the comfort of their current lives. Instead of “saving for a rainy day” or “saving for their offspring” — the common practice of the elder generations — today’s young save in order to be able to spend more and live better in the future.

Example:

A: 周末去吃自助餐吗?

Zhōumò qù chī zìzhùcān ma?

Would you like to join us for a buffet dinner this weekend?

B: 不去了,我现在自己下厨,健康还省钱。现在每个月我存500块。

Bú qù le, wǒ xiànzài zìjǐ xiàchú, jiànkāng hái shěngqián。 Xiànzài měigeyuè wǒ cún wǔbǎikuài。

I’ll pass; I cook for myself now. It saves money and the food is healthy, and I can save 500 yuan each month.

A: 你也开始无痛攒钱了。

Nǐ yě kāishǐ wútòng zǎnqián le。

So you have started a mini saving plan.
