Coordinated by the provincial public security department, police officers in Shenzhen have recently joined hands with their counterparts in Zhongshan, Guangzhou and Dongguan to facilitate the transport of a living donor liver, which boarded a flight from Shenzhen to Zhengzhou in Henan Province in a timely manner.

The joint operation was carried out from 11:14 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. Tuesday before the donated organ boarded flight CZ3974 at 12:50 p.m., 35 minutes shorter than the time predicted by the navigation system.

Traffic police in the city of Zhongshan received a call for help from a local hospital at 9:27 a.m. Tuesday, saying that a donated liver needed to be urgently transferred to Zhengzhou via Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport to save a patient there. As they couldn’t catch the flight in time, the hospital requested the traffic police to open a green channel and escort the donated organ to the Shenzhen airport.

After receiving the report from the police in Zhongshan, the traffic police bureau under the provincial public security department immediately activated the inter-city emergency escort mechanism to jointly plan the optimal driving route for the ambulance transporting the donated organ.

The ambulance carrying the donated organ hit the road at 11:14 a.m., escorted by Zhongshan police, while officers at the command center of the provincial traffic police bureau monitored the position of the convoy in real time and controlled the traffic signal system to ensure green lights were on for the whole journey.

Traffic police officers in Guangzhou started to escort the ambulance at 11:35 a.m. before Dongguan police took over at 11:52 a.m.

Traffic police in Shenzhen were responsible for escorting the ambulance to the airport in the last section of the relay. Four officers riding motorcycles escorted the ambulance and constantly gestured to remind nearby vehicles to give the right of way. Drivers on the crowded road were cooperative, moving to the side of the road to make way for the ambulance, video footage showed. It took the ambulance 66 minutes to reach Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport.
