Chen Qianwen, a national political adviser from Shenzhen, suggested accelerating the development of Hong Kong’s Northern Metropolis to offer a new engine for the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), as quoted by Shenzhen Special Zone Daily yesterday.
Chen observed that the top-level design is necessary to ensure scientific planning for Hong Kong’s future development and Guangdong Province should participate in this process.
Like Chen, many other national political advisers from Shenzhen and Hong Kong also spotlighted the Northern Metropolis’ development during the annual “two sessions.”
Li Zong, another national political adviser, who is also the director of the Guangdong High-Tech Industry Chamber, suggested that scientific and technological innovation is a key to develop the Northern Metropolis.
Choi Koon-shum, chairman of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, Hong Kong, said that “it is important for Hong Kong to integrate to the country’s development by participating in the building of the GBA.”
Choi also advised to improve transport facilities by jointly planning cross-border highways, railways and ship routes to facilitate border crossing. Choi proposed that the two local governments establish a joint venture to manage parks of the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone (HTCZ).
