Deputies to the National People’s Congress (NPC) and members of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) from Shenzhen voiced their opinions during the ongoing “two sessions.”
Xue Qikun, president of the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) and an NPC deputy, called on the country to support the construction of large scientific installations in Shenzhen, enhancing the city’s scientific and technological innovation capacity.
“The advanced technical conditions of large scientific devices can provide an excellent stage for scientist to explore the unknown and create the future,” Xue told Shenzhen Special Zone Daily. Xue added that he hopes to carry out academic research and talent training in cooperation with Hong Kong scientists.
He believes that building a world-class research university plays a decisive role in cultivating high-level talents in the future. SUSTech will attract more world-renowned scholars to train talents.
Lin Na, from the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League and a member of the National Committee of the CPPCC, suggested that support should be given to Shenzhen in exploring the real estate investment trusts (REITs) in commercial real estate.
However, China’s REIT pilot projects are limited to transportation, water conservation, clean energy, affordable rental housing and other fields, and have not yet covered commercial real estate and housing. She believes that Shenzhen has advantages in policy making, experiences and resources in the field.
