Sonneratia alba (Mangrove Apple) is an evergreen mangrove species that has white flowers with a pink base and bears distinctive green apples as fruits. The flowers bloom at night and stay open for only one night until sunlight shines upon their petals. The plant is commonly seen in Shenzhen’s wetlands and along some rivers.
