Native to the temperate areas of Sichuan, Hubei, and Guizhou provinces in southwestern China, Chinese roses usually flourish in cooler climates than Shenzhen’s. The city’s Renmin Park, however, has found ways to tend the perennial evergreen shrub following years of exploration and has built itself a Chinese roses-themed park after first introducing roughly 70 varieties of the flower.

Visitors can encounter different types of Chinese roses in bloom at different time of the year and those who are especially interested in Chinese roses can enjoy the opportunity to learn more while admiring the fragrant flowers. Recognized as a center for Chinese rose cultivation in South China, the park blends Chinese rose culture into its buildings, sculptures and regular events such as rose shows it holds.

The 2023 Shenzhen Rose Show, the city's first large-scale flower show this year, opened to the public March 8, drawing swarms of visitors to feel the vibe of the spring. Over 300 types of Chinese roses are being featured mainly in five exhibition areas of the park, covering an area totaling 17,500 square meters.

The show, which will run through March 27, also presents spring-themed floral installations, market stalls and workshops. More information on the 2023 Shenzhen Rose Show is available via the WeChat account “美丽深圳” (mlszgzh).
