The railway operator will add 12.5 pairs of trains running between Zhaoqing, Chaozhou and Shantou in Guangdong Province and Hong Kong starting from March 11, according to an announcement from Guangzhou Railway Group Corp.

Travelers can purchase tickets via China Railway’s official website www.12306.cn or through its app starting from Monday.

Passengers to Hong Kong can take the trains at 11 stations in Guangdong Province.

The additional trains will bring the total running along the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Link to 51 pairs a day, according to the announcement.

The high-speed railway’s West Kowloon Station in Hong Kong has witnessed a surge of cross-border travelers since it resumed service Jan. 15. As of March 6, the station has handled 1.08 million passenger trips, or 21,000 passengers a day.

The Hong Kong section will fully resume services with mainland cities including Beijing and Shanghai starting April. Eighty-two pairs of trains will be running between the mainland and Hong Kong along the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Link. This will boost tourism and people-to-people exchanges between the mainland and Hong Kong.
