In the government work report delivered at the opening meeting of the First Session of the 14th National People’s Congress, it was mentioned that the country will pool high-quality resources to make core technological breakthroughs and accelerate the development and application of cutting-edge technologies.
The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), as one of the regions with the highest economic vitality and the strongest technological innovation capability in China, has a sizable, technologically advanced and influential manufacturing industry cluster. Some members of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee from Shenzhen and Hong Kong offered their advice on deepening the sci-tech innovation cooperation between the two cities to contribute to national sci-tech innovation and the establishment of a modern industrial system.
Chen Qianwen, a member of the CPPCC and the vice chairperson of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPPCC, submitted a proposal on deepening the cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao and promoting the construction of the GBA at a high level. She believed that the sci-tech and industrial development of the GBA has entered a new stage, but the quality of scientific research, talent structure and resource allocation still needs to be further improved to support the huge demand for original innovation.
Ngai Ming-tak, a member of the CPPCC and the president of the Finance Association of Hong Kong, suggested promoting the construction of the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone to form a science and technology industry ecosystem integrating research and production.
