Two police officers on motorcycles in Longgang District were recently praised for escorting a sick child to the hospital, which allowed the child to receive prompt medical attention.

“This is what we should do. We have an obligation to do it,” Gan Quanbin, one of the officers who provided the escort, was quoted as saying in a Nanfang Plus report Monday.

Gan and his fellow officer Shi Mengsuo were patrolling on motorcycles at the intersection of Ainan and Shenshan roads at about 7 p.m., March 3, when they saw a driver waving at them for help. After learning that a child in the car was suffering from a high fever and convulsions and needed immediate medical attention at Longgang Central Hospital, Gan and Shi quickly sprang into action, clearing the way for the man to rush his child to the hospital.

The police body camera footage shows that from the time the two traffic police officers started leading the way until they reached the hospital’s emergency room, the whole rescue operation took only about four minutes.

“If it were during the usual rush hour period, it would take 15 to 20 minutes to drive from Ainan Road to Longgang Boulevard (where the hospital is located),” Gan said.

The driver, surnamed Chen, expressed his gratitude to the traffic police officers for their swift and efficient response.

“My child had a fever, and then suddenly I saw that his face and lips were turning blue, which was not normal and looked very serious,” Chen was quoted as telling Nanfang Plus. “Fortunately, the traffic police helped us in time, and I am really grateful to them.”
