‘Samajam 2’

“Samajam 2” is an interactive musical experience where the audience is the show. The lively show leaders on stage will teach the audience basic music theory and lead parents and kids in percussive group performances with instruments provided.

‘13’ and ‘14’

TAO Dance Theater, winner of this year’s Silver Lion Award for Dance, will bring “13” and “14” from their “Numerical Series” this weekend. The “Numerical Series”works, highlighting simple body aesthetics, have fascinated audience members in over 40 countries and regions. They will perform the two new works in a same performance, as the number 1314’s Chinese meaning of “eternity and everlasting” conveys the company’s best wishes to audience members.

‘Silver Lining’

Young choreographer Chen Zihao is joining hands with rising dancers Zhu Fengwei, Li Yu and actress Tu Ling in his multimedia dance production “Silver Lining,” in which Chen plays a monkey who doesn’t want to become a grown-up; Zhu plays a cat who looks like a tiger; Li plays a chicken who believes he can fly; and Tu plays a speechless fantasist. The Chinese title of the work is “29,” as the three male dancers Chen, Zhu and Li are all around 29 years old, and Chen believes “29 represents a kind of obstacle in life.”

Classical music

The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts graduate He Liyan will perform piano pieces by Chopin, Beethoven, Debussy and Mozart while young violinist Yuan Chen’er who graduated from the Juilliard School will play easy-listening pieces by Kreisler and Saint-Saens on Saturday night. Meanwhile, young Chinese pianist Wei Zijian who graduated from Central Conservatory of Music will perform Haydn, Chopin, Brahms, Liszt, Ravel, Schumann and Barber pieces Sunday night.

Drama, dance

The children’s drama “Like Cat and Dog” with multiple interactions among the performers and the audience stands ready to impress on the stage. When painter Nacho brings all his drawings to life, everything becomes a mess like cat and dog.

Meanwhile, featuring the folk characteristics of Guangdong, the dance “Dragon Boat Racing” will treat audience members to exciting evocations of dragon boat races, as well as a quintessential Guangdong music repertoire.
