Skills competition to be held in May

Forty competition events of the 3rd Skills Competition of Guangdong will be held in Shenzhen between May 18 and 21, according to the Shenzhen Human Resources and Social Security Bureau.

A total 520 competitors will gather in the city for the skills competition, said to be the largest, highest level and most influential skills competition in the southern China province.

The competition, the preliminary for the 2nd China National Vocational Skills Competition and organized by the Guangdong Human Resources and Social Security Department and the Shenzhen Municipal Government, comprises 92 competition events, focusing on fostering the development of 20 strategic industrial clusters in Guangdong.

It includes 63 events for the world skills competition, 28 events for the national competition and one event for new vocation. Some of the events will be completed in April and before May 15.

The top three winners in each event will receive certificates and medals and will be eligible for the Guangdong training camp for the 47th WorldSkills Competition. After the training, the top one will represent Guangdong to participate in the 2nd China National Skills Competition.

Residents with Guangdong permanent residency, or having worked and studied in the province for more than a year and aged above 16 can register for the competition.

The contestants for the WorldSkills Competition should be born after Jan. 1, 2002. Those contestants participating in the 13 events like information network wiring, photo-mechanical integration, aircraft maintenance, cyber safety, water treatment, photo-electricity, industrial design, robotics system, digital architecture should be born after Jan. 1, 1999.

At the 2022 special edition of the WorldSkills Competition in South Korea, two contestants from the Shenzhen Institute of Technology won the gold medals in the categories of Cloud Computing and 3D Digital Games. This was the first time that contestants from Shenzhen won the gold medals at the competition.

The WorldSkills Competition, a biennial event, is the world largest, highest level and most influential vocational skills contest.

Shenzhen contestants participated in the WorldSkills Competition for the first time in 2015. At the 43rd, 44th and 45th competitions, contestants from Shenzhen won two silver medals respectively in 3D Digital Games category and Industrial Design category, and two bronze medals and two excellence prizes.
