Dapeng New Area recently launched an urban space renovation project to form a circular mountain-sea themed trail, according to sznews.com.

The project is located at Dongchong Community, Nan’ao Subdistrict of Dapeng New Area, covering nearly 30 hectares, equivalent to about 27.7 standard soccer pitches.

The project aims to build the city’s “sixth façade,” which refers to urban landscapes that people can perceive when overlooking the city from a higher viewpoint like mountains, high-rise buildings or aircraft take-off and landing areas, which includes rooftops (or a building’s fifth façade), building facades, streets, sky corridors, open spaces and other urban space elements.

The Dapeng project will specifically be implemented through repainting building facades, improving community parks, rebuilding sidewalks and waterfront trails, according to the report.

The project, which is expected to be completed this year, will utilize Dapeng’s existing natural and historical resources such as its mountains and seas to form a circular themed trail.

Staffers from the Nan’ao Subidstrict Office said that they will adopt the method of handing over one building and demolishing another to minimize the impact on residents’ daily life while ensuring everyone’s safety.

Shenzhen has begun compiling the city’s sixth façade renovation work plan since this February. The work plan includes a total of 20 pilot areas for renovation.
