Hosted by AHK Greater China, the event was held to deepen Sino-German economic and trade cooperation and cultural exchange, enhance friendship and strengthen mutual understanding between Shenzhen and Germany, while at the same time demonstrate Shenzhen’s efforts to become an international consumption center.

Shenzhen has been making efforts to attract more international brands to open their first stores in the city by building a bridge of cooperation through cultural exchanges, the city’s commerce bureau said.

Shenzhen’s first-store economy, measured by the launch of the “first store” opening of a leading industrial or fashion brand in specific areas in the city, has seen robust growth and become a new momentum to drive local consumption.

Third-party data show that a total of 321 first stores opened in Shenzhen in 2022, up 18.8% year on year. Ninety-three among the stores were the first of its kind in South China and 140 in Shenzhen.

According to the commerce bureau, a total of 93 international brands entered Shenzhen for the first time last year, accounting for nearly 30% of the new entrants to the Shenzhen market.

Meanwhile, the city has been a magnet for overseas brands from countries such as the United States, France, Italy, Britain, Japan and Spain.
