New coral adoption and farming invites signups

Residents can become coral defenders by signing up for the coral adoption and farming activity that will offer 511 quotas starting from today.

The organizer of Shenzhen International Fisheries and Seafood Expo 2023 will offer a quota of 200 at 12 p.m. today and another quota of 311 Friday for the general public to apply at the official website https://www.szfisheryexpo.com, according to an announcement from Shenzhen Port Group.

The move is to raise public awareness over the protection of coral reefs and its ecological system, help restore the coral reef ecology in Shenzhen sea area and optimize the ecological environment in sea area of Dapeng Peninsula.

The defenders will have their names on the pots of their corals, obtain an e-certificate and a digital photo of the coral reef.

Successful applicants who made it to the quotas can sign their names for confirmation at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center, the main venue of Shenzhen International Fisheries and Seafood Expo 2023, during the expo period between May 11-13. Those who do not make the quotas but still want to adopt a coral can pay 200 yuan (US$29.01) for the adoption fee.

The organizer will also organize 50 residents, in two batches, to experience farming activities held in Dapeng on May 13 and May 14 respectively. They can apply at the official website Friday. The organizer will inform the candidates after selection, and the farming activity will cost 500 yuan per person.
