Meilin Park in Futian District officially opened its new reading space during an inauguration ceremony held at the space yesterday, the 28th World Book and Copyright Day.

The new reading space, located at the park’s ancient litchi tree area, is also a branch of Futian Library. The 700-square-meter space has five functional areas, namely a literature area, comprehensive area, children’s area, special area and e-reading area.

It has a collection of more than 15,000 books, covering categories such as children’s literature, young adult books and philosophy. Citizens can borrow books from the space and can also return them at Futian Library and its branches.

Sandy plants such as cacti and desert roses were planted around the reading space so that visitors can enjoy reading in a cozy and beautiful environment.

The reading space is open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. from Tuesday to Saturday. Holiday opening hours will be announced separately. To visit, citizens can make an appointment via the WeChat account “美丽深圳” (mlszgzh).

The new space will make full use of its functional areas to organize nature education activities and charity lectures, according to the city’s park management center.

As of now, Shenzhen has built 52 different types of book bars including libraries and reading corners at public parks.

At the same time, park book bars across the city also launched an event to allow citizens to exchange books to celebrate the 28th World Book and Copyright Day.
