The Sea World Culture and Arts Center (SWCAC) is currently hosting several exciting art exhibitions.
‘Everyone Is an Artist: Joseph Beuys’
The “Everyone Is an Artist: Joseph Beuys” exhibition features 200 works by German avant-garde sculptor, painter, installation artist and performance artist Joseph Beuys (1921-1986) whose works are characterized by unorthodox materials and ritualistic activities.
Beuys’ extensive work is grounded in concepts of humanism and social philosophy and he claimed a creative, participatory role in shaping society and politics. Many of Beuys’ most popular works were his performance and installation pieces, including “How to Explain Pictures to a Dead Hare” in 1965, “I Like America and America Likes Me” in 1974, and a social sculpture project that involved planting 7,000 trees in Germany. His art was compared by some critics to that of the German Expressionists, both for its obsessive and unsettling qualities and for its linking of artistic revolution and social revolution.
