Shenzhen Design Week has provided a platform for designers from around the world to have in-depth communication, push boundaries, and explore more possibilities for future design.

“For me, this is basically where you can find designers coming together to exchange ideas on how we can continue to improve how society is functioning and to improve the quality of life for people,” Yanique DaCosta said in an interview Thursday, the opening day of the 2023 Shenzhen Design Week.

DaCosta, a Jamaican-born graphic designer and creative director at YKMD, a graphic design services company, was invited to attend the 2023 Shenzhen Design Week. “We’re here to lend any resources that we have and also to learn and to cooperate and see how we can continue to improve design on a global scale,” DaCosta said.

According to DaCosta, technological access in Shenzhen is on a completely different scale compared with a lot of places in the world. “Shenzhen is a leader in terms of utilizing technology and design to improve people’s lives.”

The Jamaican designer was impressed by Shenzhen’s urban design and the green spaces it provides its citizens. “You see how Shenzhen has been pushing boundaries in terms of utilizing technology and incorporating human thoughts and feelings into creating these amazing spaces for people to use,” she said.
