A 337-meter-long child-friendly road with bright colors and clear patterns has recently been put into use in Nanshan District.

Located near Shenzhen University’s North Gate, the road serves as a demonstration road in Nanshan for commuting school children and has been praised by parents of students from Nanshan Kindergarten Attached to Shenzhen University for its safe environment.

Previously, the road was the only passage to the kindergarten and was in poor condition. It was often occupied by a mix of pedestrians and vehicles.

During the road’s renovation, Nanshan’s traffic police bureau worked out a plan based on the children’s needs, incorporating child-friendly designs into the road’s construction and renovation projects. From road surfacing, curb elevation, zebra designs to pedestrian directives, the road has been transformed into a safe and appealing environment for the children. Brightly colored benches have also been placed along the road to provide a rest area for those tired from their daily commute.

The construction of child-friendly roads will be an essential part of Nanshan’s slow traffic system and will be popularized in other parts of the district, according to the traffic police authority.
