Pingshan New Energy Vehicle Industry Park’s Phase 1 has passed the construction acceptance review, and a vast high-quality industrial space will soon be put into use.

The project is China’s first smart prefabricated high-rise vertical factory consisting of six buildings, with the highest R&D building reaching 151.6 meters and the highest factory building reaching 91.4 meters. The park covers a total area of 107,800 square meters and can provide 512,000 square meters of industrial space.

Vertical factories integrate production, research and development (R&D), and design into a multilevel building. The biggest difference between ordinary office buildings and Pingshan New Energy Vehicle Industry Park’s vertical factory is that there are additional requirements for floor height, load-bearing capacity and space for equipment used for producing new energy vehicles (NEVs). Additionally, vertical and on-site logistics are also taken into consideration.

To address these challenges, the Pingshan New Energy Vehicle Industry Park is equipped with two cargo elevators capable of bearing up to 5 tons and each has a cabin area of 18 square meters for transporting oversized goods and equipment. To meet diversified production needs, the floor height can reach up to 10 meters, and large trucks can directly go up to the third floor to unload goods, while small vehicles can take a designated lift to the 17th floor, realizing efficient transportation within a vertical factory.

Since last year, Pingshan has been carrying out industrial space consolidation for vertical factory projects to improve the urban area quality. As the first project launched in the central startup area of the Shenzhen New Energy (Automobile) Industry Base, Pingshan New Energy Vehicle Industry Park will not only provide high-standard and customized production space for enterprises, but also establish a NEV technology innovation center integrating R&D offices and lightweight production to support the district’s NEV industry.

With the Beijing Institute of Technology’s Shenzhen Automotive Research Institute in the park, it aims to attract additional high-quality automotive innovation resources from around the country and the world, and fuel the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area automobile industry and international science and technology innovation center.

Since vertical factories take up less space, in the next five years, Shenzhen plans to build more vertical factories, offering 20 million square meters of industrial space annually with low rents to architecturally combine different enterprises on the industrial chain. Among them, there are eight vertical factory projects in Pingshan with a total construction area of 3.9 million square meters.
