Representing Shenzhen’s commitment to excellence, 45 contestants are competing in the 40 final competitions of the ongoing Third Guangdong Vocational Skills Contest at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center in Futian District.

Bringing together a total of 524 skilled technicians from 23 delegations across Guangdong Province and one team from Macao, the four-day competition, which kicked off Thursday, showcases the region’s finest vocational talents. The event is jointly organized by the Guangdong Provincial Human Resources and Social Security Department and the Shenzhen Municipal Government.

A closing ceremony will be held Sunday to award the contest winners.

The competitions are held rigorously at five halls in the exhibition center, spanning diverse fields such as big data application, cloud computing, 3D game design, fashion technology, culinary arts, graphic and floral designs, as well as web and structural designs.

The Shenzhen delegation gathered talents from various local institutes, colleges and enterprises, with Shenzhen Institute of Technology, Shenzhen Pengcheng Technician College, Shenzhen Polytechnic and Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology as the city’s four main competitors, according to Ling Wenhao, team leader of the Shenzhen delegation.

Shenzhen Institute of Technology, whose students won five gold prizes for the second provincial contest and two medals at last year’s WorldSkills Competition, has assigned 18 contestants to compete in 14 events at this year’s provincial contest.

“We expect to chase for better results this year on behalf of Shenzhen,” Yuan Jun, director of the competition office of Shenzhen Institute of Technology, told Shenzhen Daily.

The Macao delegation, participating for the first time in the Guangdong vocational skills contest, was represented by 11 technicians competing in nine events.

“It’s a good opportunity to interact with other contestants,” Ng Wai Cheng, team leader of the Macao delegation, said. “We gave special training to the contestants for this contest. Two of our contestants, hailing all the way from the U.S., dedicated their time for attending the competition,” Ng added.
