Forty-five golf teams had registered in this year’s Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) League, organizers said.

Compared with the event’s first edition in 2021 with 30 teams and last year’s edition with 40 teams, this year’s participants reached a new record.

The tournament is different from the highly-popular Golfathon, as personal skills play a more important part, according to Tenniel Chu, vice chairman of Mission Hills Group, the event’s organizer. “Team communication and cooperation are also very important. I hope that this tournament can play a role in showcasing team culture, allowing more people to see the charm of our amateur golf teams,” Chu said at a launch ceremony at Mission Hills Dongguan on Wednesday.

The league, for amateur golf players, will last five months. The eight best performing teams in last year’s event will directly enter the semifinals in August, while the remaining 37 teams are divided into four groups by drawing lots to participate in the preliminary round in June and July.

After fierce competition in the semifinals, qualified teams will compete in the Grand Finals in October and the eight finalists will then be decided.

As a pioneer in China’s golf industry, Mission Hills Group has held several amateur golf events in China with increasing number of participants in the past years.
