A celebration to mark the city's fifth Love Your Pet Dog Day was held yesterday at the Jingtian pet theme park in Futian District, attracting a bunch of dog owners.

Since 2019, Shenzhen has dedicated May 29 as Love Your Pet Dog Day. Other celebrations were organized simultaneously across the city yesterday to promote dog microchipping and registration, as well as to disseminate valuable information about responsible pet ownership.

“I live nearby and visit the park (Jingtian pet theme park) every day to walk my dog. It is wonderful to see dedicated activities being held for dogs today," said a dog owner surnamed Liu. "I noticed that veterinarians were present, providing free consultations. The environment for raising pet dogs in Shenzhen has continuously improved."

A veterinarian surnamed Chen who is responsible for offering free consultations at the Jingtian venue said that dog information can now be recorded through nose prints as well. "Dogs that are not suitable for microchipping, such as pregnant or sick dogs, can have their information registered using their nose print,” Chen said.

At present, all pet dogs in Shenzhen are required to be microchipped and registered in the city's dog management system.

Free microchipping services were also provided at the event’s main venue in Jingtian yesterday. Moreover, information about several stray dogs was displayed to encourage the public to adopt rather than purchase a pet dog.

Since 2018, Shenzhen has been actively addressing issues related to pet dog management.

The Jingtian pet theme park, the city's first pet theme park, opened to the public in 2019. Shenzhen has since established a total of 11 pet theme parks across the city, providing pet owners with spaces for their dogs to socialize and engage in daily exercise.

Staffers of the city’s park management center said that in the future, each district will add dedicated park areas to facilitate dog playtime and socialization.
