Eyewear fair, design contest kick off

Eyewear designers from home and abroad are invited to enter for the 2023 Shenzhen Eyewear Design Contest, a sideline event of the ongoing FAST Shenzhen Eyewear Fashion Week.

Contestants can submit their design works before Dec. 19 and the final results will be released afterwards.

The name "FAST," the acronym of fashion, art, smart and technology, well reflects the city’s spirit and characteristics, insiders say.

The Shenzhen Eyewear Fashion Week, which kicked off last Friday, is also featuring a 7,500-square-meter fair, where in which eyewear companies from Shenzhen as well as other Chinese cities are showcasing their designs and products.

During the fashion week, photographers will be invited toare visiting eyewear factories in the Henggang area, the eyewear industrial base of Shenzhen, and where a series of themed activities, including runway shows and product releases, will are being held.

“The FAST Shenzhen Eyewear Fashion Week is a very important event to promote the high-quality development of the eyewear industry in Shenzhen,” said Han Wangxi, an official with the Publicity Department of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC. “The name ‘FAST,’ the acronym of fashion, art, smart and technology, well reflects the city’s spirit and characteristics.”

After 40 years of development, the eyewear sector has become the pillar industry of Shenzhen’s fashion industries. Currently, Shenzhen produces 125 million pairs of eyeglasses annually, with an annual output exceeding 15 billion yuan (US$2.3 billion). Roughly 80% of Shenzhen-produced eyewear is exported and sold in more than 130 countries and regions.

“As an eyewear maker in Shenzhen, we hoped are delighted to have such an opportunity to showcase our products and designs,” said Chen Min, co-founder of Loho Technology (Shenzhen) Ltd. “Shenzhen, the a UNESCO City of Design, enjoys its advantage in holding such an eyewear design contest. Eyewear companies like us will also benefit from such contests because it’s good chance to find and bring in new design talent.”
