The 2023 general assembly of the Teochew International Federation, spotlighting high-quality development and overseas Teochew people, was held in Shantou, Guangdong Province, from Sunday to yesterday.

The assembly attracted over 300 Teochew representatives from more than 150 membership associations within China and abroad to share their love for the homeland and seek development opportunities.

The assembly is also a warmup event for the 22nd Teochew International Convention that will be held in Shantou in 2024.

A digital Chaoshan homeland platform was launched Monday. The platform integrates multiple functions including the introduction of Teochew associations at home and abroad, interactive exchanges among Teochew people, business and trade matchmaking, and government services for Chinese nationals living abroad.

During the assembly period, guests also visited key infrastructure and enterprises in Shantou and learned about the city’s business climate.

Data indicates that there are currently 697 overseas Chinese-funded enterprises in Shantou, with a total investment of US$13 billion.

While addressing the assembly, Lin Huiyong, president of the U.S. Chao-Shan Chamber of Commerce, said that “I saw the urban, investment, and business environments of my hometown during this visit and hope to take the assembly as a chance to carry out in-depth cooperation with Shantou to achieve win-win results.”

Teochew International Federation, previously known as Teochew International Convention, was established in 1980 and founded by Teochew associations from Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
