Shenzhen to host World Science and Technology Development Forum for the first time, list of ambassadors unveiled

The 5th World Science and Technology Development Forum will be held in Shenzhen from Nov. 23 to 25.

With the theme of “Empowering Development with Science and Technology, Pursuing the Future of the Bay Area,” the forum will focus on exploring the forefront of science and technology, promoting development with science and technology, addressing challenges with science and technology, and effective governance with science and technology.

There will be one main forum and 11 parallel panel sessions, with about 200 world-renowned scientists, educators, economists, entrepreneurs, and heads of important world scientific organizations from more than 20 countries and regions to attending the event and exchanging reports.

Seven renowned academicians with significant influence in the scientific community of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area have been invited to serve as ambassadors for the forum.

They are Zhong Nanshan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and director of Guangzhou Laboratory; Mao Junfa, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and president of Shenzhen University; Chen Qingquan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and an expert in electric vehicles, electric driving and smart energy; Song Yonghua, president of the University of Macao, an expert in electrical engineering and fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering of the United Kingdom; Gao Wen, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and director of Pengcheng Laboratory; Xu Yansheng, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen; and Xue Qikun, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and president of the Southern University of Science and Technology.

The forum, which will be held both online and offline, will be livestreamed in multiple languages through multimedia platforms.

The forum is jointly organized by the China Association for Science and Technology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the Guangdong Provincial Government and the Shenzhen Municipal Government.
