An ideal escape from the hustle and bustle into a Western state of mind, McCawley’s Irish Pub has been offering genuine Irish draft stout and beer and popular pub food since 2003.
The pub and restaurant, conveniently located in the heart of Futian, just opposite Coco Park, is a two-floor establishment. The first floor has a small bar as well as an outdoor dining area. The second floor is a larger lounge area. Projection television screens are on both floors for sporting events. A door beside the bar counter leads to a spacious room, which is available for special events and parties.
The decor of McCawley’s is that of a genuine Irish pub: wooden floors and benches, dim lighting, and a vast array of knick-knacks and books on the walls. Despite the busy outside world, the pub can offer diners a quiet respite.
McCawley’s is one of the few places in Shenzhen serving Guinness draft stout. Other beverages include beers and spirits from around the world, some difficult to find elsewhere in the city.
The menu at McCawley’s is a listing of popular pub grub, a blend of Western delicacies and Asian twists. Starters include pub classics such as chicken wings, nachos and French fries (potato chips). Recommended are the platter of sausages, which is a selection of freshly made sausages from the Butcher Shop — grilled and served with mustard — and an antipasto plate for four people, which is a selection of fine cheese, marinated olives and char-grilled vegetables served with water crackers. The kitchen has a wide variety of fresh sandwiches, including hamburgers and steak. All food is served in oversized portions to satisfy any diner.
McCawley’s main courses are a real taste of Ireland. Beef and Guinness pie, Irish stew, bangers and mash, and the butcher’s mixed grill make deciding on an entree a difficult task. The all-day breakfast of fried eggs, including all the associated accompaniments as well as a mug of tea or coffee, is quite popular.
A rich array of Asian favorites is also available, including spaghetti and black pepper beef, sweet and sour pork, lemon chicken and McCawley’s fried rice.
