Japanese composer Joe Hisaishi’s film scores possess a stylistically distinct sound and have become popular for children’s concerts in China in recent years. Five concerts featuring his pieces will be held in town at various venues from now until the end of the year. All of the performances will be accompanied by movie clips on screens in the background.

Hisaishi was a student of legendary anime composer Takeo Watanabe. Hisaishi is known for over 100 film scores and solo albums dating back to 1981. His music has been known to explore and incorporate different genres, including minimalist, experimental electronic and classical.
He has been associated with animator Hayao Miyazaki since 1984, having composed scores for all of his films, such as “Howl’s Moving Castle,” “Porco Rosso,” “Princess Mononoke,” “Kiki’s Delivery Service” and “Spirited Away.” He is also recognized for the soundtracks he has provided for film director Takeshi Kitano, such as “Summer” and “Kids Return.”
Pearl River Symphony Orchestra 千与千寻—久石让•宫崎骏动漫视听大型交响音乐会
Pearl River Symphony Orchestra from Guangzhou will perform Hisaishi’s scores from Miyazaki’s movies.

Star Quintet from Dongguan will play Hisaishi’s scores for Kitano’s movies, as well as other award-winning Japanese movies, such as “Departures.”

Music Fans Classical from Beijing will present Hisaishi’s scores from Miyazaki’s and Kitano’s movies, as well as his score for the Chinese movie, “The Sun Also Rises.” Some tunes will be played in jazz and tango styles.
