The north-south Metro Line 13, a Phase IV project of Shenzhen Metro network construction, will be further extended to Gongming North Station in Guangming District in the north and Dongjiaotou Station in Shekou in the south.

The northern extension of the line adds 18.8 kilometers and the 4.47-kilometer addition to the southern extension of the line will connect with Line 2 at Dongjiaotou Station, according to an approval by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) on the adjustment of Shenzhen’s Phase IV Metro construction plan between 2017 and 2022.

The extension project is to be completed in five years and expected to cost 5.4 billion yuan (US$767 million).

In the approval, NDRC also adjusted eight other lines in support of the city’s development and construction strategy in key areas, optimizing commuting patterns and relieving traffic congestions.

The 9.35-kilometer Phase IV project of Line 3 will have a 7.42-kilometer section underground and a 1.93-kilometer section on an elevated bridge.

Phase II of Line 6 Spur Line will be extended about 4.9 kilometers from Cuihu Station to Guangmingcheng Station.

Phase III of Line 8 to Xiaomeisha will be further extended by 4.26 kilometers to Xichong Station in Dapeng, while Shenzhen World Convention and Exhibition Center will be connected with Airport North Station by an 8.43-kilometer Line 20 in its Phase I construction.

Line 12 is designed to have trains travel at 120 kilometers per hour and will be completed in three years.

The State authority also approved extensions of Line 12 from Waterland Resort Station to Songgang Station, Line 16 from Universiade Station to Xikeng Station, Line 7 from Xili Lake Station to Xuefu Hospital Station and Line 11 from Futian Station to Hongling South Station.

The total investment of the nine lines is estimated at 68.97 billion yuan.
