OCT Flame Flower Carnival opens Saturday
This weekend, go out for some fresh air. It’s time for flamboyant flame flowers in full blossom in this tropical city, and in celebration, the annual OCT Flame Flower Carnival will kick off this weekend at Overseas Chinese Town in Nanshan District.
In its sixth year, the OCT Flame Flower Carnival, opening at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the OCT Ecology Plaza, will offer a string of free events, including movie screenings, live concerts, drama shows and markets.
Screening
Chinese-language nature documentaries “The Survival Wisdom of a Wetland” (May 15), “Cross Water” (May 16) and “Wild Shenzhen” (May 20) and the revolutionary movie “Beginning of the Great Revival” (May 22) will be shown. “Beginning of the Great Revival” details the historic events that led to the founding of the Communist Party of China.

Amusement facilities will be installed on the grassland, where clowns and acrobats will give stunning performances.

Drama show
Amateur performers will present a show about their memories in Shenzhen.

Several speakers including Chinese wildlife photographer Xi Zhinong and Shenzhen history and nature researcher Nan Zhaoxu will give a talk about humans and nature.

Salon
Bishan Crafts Cooperatives founder Zuo Jing will introduce his project taking place in Bishan Village in Anhui Province. The project combines traditional craftsmanship with contemporary art and design and was built on the old site of the Bishan Supply and Marketing Cooperatives in 1964.
