The China Materials Conference 2022-2023, which is scheduled to open in the Shenzhen World Convention and Exhibition Center tomorrow, is expected to gather more than 15,000 participants from across China including renowned academicians, experts and young scholars in the field of new materials science.
This is the first time for the city to host this event, which was initiated in 1992. With an innovation-driven development strategy, Shenzhen has been endeavoring to develop new materials industry clusters, and hosting the China Materials Conference is one of the initiatives in this regard.
This year’s China Materials Conference focuses on cutting-edge new materials science and technology. During the event, the latest research results, advanced technologies, and high-end products in the field of new materials will be unveiled. The conference will also set up a number of sub-forums, including 77 sub-forums on major basic research and applied basic research, covering five major themes such as energy materials, environmental materials, and advanced structural materials. Three forums focusing on the new materials development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area will also be held. Among the 15,000 attendees, more than 50 are academicians and more than 1,200 are national-level outstanding talents.
New materials science is an upstream sector of all strategic emerging industries, and Shenzhen’s new materials industry has been developing rapidly. Official statistics show that the added value of Shenzhen’s new materials industry reached 36.47 billion yuan in 2022, representing an increase of 21.9% year on year. More than 300 institutions and companies in the city are engaged in new materials innovation. The city is home to more than 2,500 new materials-related companies above designated scales, with nearly 50 being listed on the stock markets.
