Qianhai Museum, a new signature cultural landmark of Shenzhen, will officially open its doors to the public during trial operations in October 2026.

Situated against the backdrop of Dananshan and Xiaonanshan mountains and overlooking Qianhai Bay, the museum occupies a site of 32,400 square meters with a total floor area of 126,000 square meters.

Designed by He Jingtang, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the building’s exterior takes inspiration from the traditional Chinese architectural motif of “overlapping eaves,” reinterpreted through contemporary design into layered, cantilevered forms that offer natural shade and create a distinctive, iconic silhouette.

The museum complex will house permanent, thematic, and temporary exhibition galleries, along with collection spaces for cultural relics and a range of comprehensive supporting facilities. It is envisioned as a national-level, comprehensive, smart, and internationally oriented museum within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

In collaboration with the National Museum of China — following an agreement signed at last week’s Shenzhen Global Investment Promotion Conference — the museum will feature flagship exhibitions such as "A General History of Ancient China," "Ancient Chinese Jade," and "Ancient Chinese Porcelain" once operational.
