The Shenzhen Science & Technology Museum, a standout cultural and educational hub in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, has drawn more than 3 million visitors in its first nine months.
From May 1, 2025 to January 30, 2026, this landmark museum has become a major attraction for science enthusiasts and tourists alike.
On January 31, 2026, the museum celebrated the milestone with a lively event attended by both domestic and international visitors. A commemorative cake was shared with every attendee and a visitor from Hong Kong said: “This is my third visit, and each time there are new surprises!”

The 3 million visitors include many repeat guests from Shenzhen and nearby regions, as well as visitors from Hong Kong, Macao, Beijing, Tianjin, Guangxi, and Hunan. International guests have come from the United States, the United Kingdom, Thailand, Kazakhstan, and delegations from global institutions like the Singapore Cultural Heritage Bureau and the Consulate General of Saudi Arabia in Guangzhou have also visited. This highlights the museum’s significance as an international platform for scientific exchange, making it not only a local landmark but also a global science center.
"I think it's a lot of technique, a lot of science, and we like to see it," said Peter Niemann, a visitor from Germany, to EyeShenzhen. "What impressed me is the contrast between the traditional Asian elements and the very modern, technical aspects of the museum. It's a combination that is very interesting for me — it's unbelievable. I wish the museum all the very best for the future."

With 950 immersive and interactive exhibits, the museum brings complex scientific principles to life in an accessible and engaging way. More than 8,000 enriching educational events have been held so far, filling every corner of the museum with excitement. These activities include the first Shenzhen Science Debate, creative ideas from innovation camps, and even China’s first "Science Wedding." Additionally, public outreach programs have taken science into schools, communities, parks, and shopping centers, ensuring that knowledge reaches people where they live and work.
"For this venue, reaching 3 million visitors is extremely significant," said Liu Ta-cheng from China’s Taiwan to EyeShenzhen. "It shows how attractive it is, with people returning for second or third visits. It combines education and entertainment seamlessly. It's so vast that you can't finish it in one day, which makes people come back for more. Technology, innovation, and life are all blended together."
Prof. Zheng Yongchun, director of the museum, said: “Everything we are doing now is planting the seeds for the future of science. Shenzhen is a center of innovation, and the next generation of scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs will emerge right here in this museum. Those who are captivated by the exhibits today may well become the pioneers of tomorrow's technological breakthroughs.”
The museum's influence extends beyond exhibitions, acting as a catalyst for economic growth in Guangming District. Visitors often combine a morning visit to the museum with an afternoon stroll in nearby parks and an evening sampling of local specialties such as roasted pigeon. The museum’s popularity has benefited nearby restaurants, hotels, and businesses, contributing to a more vibrant local economy.
