Two giant parks unveiled in push for smart manufacturing

Two major industrial parks officially opened in Nanshan District on Feb. 24, providing over 2 million square meters of industrial space for enterprises and R&D institutions.

The Nanshan Smart Manufacturing Base (Honghualing) focuses on sectors such as next-generation information technology, the industrial internet, and big data. The Nanshan Intelligent Park (Zhiyuan), on the other hand, attracts enterprises in next-generation information technology, artificial intelligence, and biomedicine.

Located in the heart of the Shenzhen Robotics Valley and less than 6 kilometers apart, the two parks are connected by a “smart manufacturing corridor” along Liuxian Avenue. This corridor is home to innovation hubs such as the Liuxiandong Headquarters Base and Shenzhen University Town.

Several enterprises that have moved into the newly opened parks expressed optimism about their growth.

Qiu Chunxin, chairman of RoboSense, noted that shipments of their LiDAR devices more than tripled to 1 million units in 2025, and he expects the figure to quadruple this year. “We will use the new venue at the Honghualing Base for R&D and smart manufacturing, and build embodied AI spare parts production lines and testing facilities that meet international standards,” he said.

DST Green Technology, an online-and-offline logistics service provider, also expressed strong confidence in future growth. “We will capitalize on the advantages of the Intelligent Park’s proximity to Xili Lake International Science and Education City and explore new application scenarios and markets for our logistics services,” said company executive Wang Jian.

The Honghualing area was once a traditional industrial cluster in Nanshan. Since the 1990s, it gradually developed into an industrial zone dominated by labor-intensive industries such as hardware, plastics, and garments. During Shenzhen’s economic takeoff, it provided crucial support for urbanization and industrialization. However, the area later faced challenges like inefficient space utilization and aging infrastructure, making renovation urgent.

Nanshan began renovating the Honghualing Base in 2022, drawing on the experience of Singapore’s Jurong Industrial Estate. The project adopted innovative ramps to allow 12-meter-long container trucks to reach the ninth floor of the factory building for loading and unloading. The ramps, built to municipal road and bridge standards, feature a gradient of only 5% and a minimum width of 8 meters. Companies on higher floors can use heavy-duty hoisting equipment installed on the ninth floor to facilitate the movement of machinery. This model enables high-end manufacturing to operate efficiently in high-rise spaces with high ceilings and large load capacities.

“Such a design enhances efficiency and saves operating costs,” said Xie Kaixuan, marketing director of Dobot Robotics, which has chosen to settle at the Honghualing Base. “With R&D departments working next to the manufacturing division, we can respond to customer needs more quickly and speed up product iteration.”

EngineAI, also known as Zhongqing Robotics, is among the first tenants at the Honghualing Base. “We are just a dozen yards away from the building that houses RoboSense, whose LiDAR products serve as the ‘eyes’ for our robots,” said a company representative. “The synergy here is remarkable.”

While the Honghualing Base emphasizes spatial efficiency, the Nanshan Intelligent Park is a model that harmonizes production, living, and ecology. The park prioritizes not only industrial clustering but also complete amenities and a cozy living environment. Features like sky gardens, jogging tracks, and 100,000 square meters of housing nearby create the ideal scenario of “living upstairs and working downstairs in a lush environment.”

The outstanding industrial ecosystem and business environment form Nanshan’s core competitive edge in attracting global companies.

During the 2025 Shenzhen Global Investment Promotion Conference, Nanshan’s government entered into agreements with four major enterprises — among them Boson Quantum and China Electronics Corporation — to set up local subsidiaries.

In November last year, China’s first large-scale specialized photonic quantum computer manufacturing facility also established in the Nanshan Intelligent Park.

Two major high-tech industrial parks have opened in Nanshan District, marking the latest move by the district to advance smart manufacturing.
