At the International Bay Area Green and Low-Carbon Development Forum, held as part of the Shenzhen Low-Carbon Forum, Laura Van Wie McGrory, Global Engagement Lead for Clean Energy at the World Resources Institute (WRI) Polsky Center for the Global Energy Transition, expressed deep admiration for Shenzhen’s achievements in sustainable urban transformation and its role as a global model for green innovation.

Riccardo Mesiano, deputy director and senior economic affairs officer at the U.N. Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) East and North-East Asia Office, lauded Shenzhen’s dynamic role in advancing low-carbon development, describing the city as “a place where technology, policy, and innovation come together in a visible, living example of green transition.”

At the opening ceremony of the 2025 Shenzhen Low-Carbon Forum on Oct. 28, Professor Vilas Nitivattananon from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Bangkok spoke passionately about Shenzhen’s pioneering role in sustainable urban development and its growing international influence.

Shenzhen expanded its designated stroke treatment network from 31 hospitals in 2021 to 37 in 2024, bringing vital care closer to residents across the city.

Registration for the Shenzhen Marathon 2025 began Thursday, opening the gates for up to 30,000 runners to secure a spot in the December race, organizers announced.
