Carol Zurita, a motivational speaker and writer from Ecuador, likes sharing an experience she had in Shenzhen four years ago.

“I was dropped off at Window of the World, with all my luggage, without knowing where to go, what to do.”

She managed to find a hostel, get a teaching job and settle in the city.

Now she has a busy life writing articles, giving speeches, holding seminars and selling t-shirts she designed.

“We are here in this beautiful city full of opportunities, jobs. Industry is growing super fast, people are super busy. Sooner or later, no matter how successful you are, you will feel overloaded.”

“I basically try to send messages … (that) it’s just a matter of changing your habits, your way of thinking, very tiny changes every day and then you can feel very differently. This is like a snowball, once you begin to feel peaceful, you begin to be more creative, then it’s easy to solve problems and make decisions.”

Born in Ecuador to a struggling family, she grew up thinking she was never good enough.

Unsatisfied with her home country and the United States, where she moved to after her mother remarried, she came to China for a new beginning through an exchange program.

Based on her personal experience, she writes articles and gives lectures and workshops about topics such as the power of thoughts, ego and fears.

She tells her readers to dream big, and begin today. Her dream is to become a successful motivational speaker, well-known worldwide. Through social media she now has readers in countries like Thailand and Australia. She will fly to Shanghai for speeches in two weeks.

“Most Chinese have anxieties like family problems, having kids, and getting promotions,” Zurita said, while foreigners have come to her to talk about relationship problems.
