AMONG dozens of Chinese enterprises that received awards for carrying out good-intentioned events to fulfill their corporate social responsibilities (CSR), three Shenzhen companies stood out on the list.

At the awarding ceremony, the three enterprises donated a total of 115 million yuan (US$17.39 million) to Shenzhen Charity Federation for projects that provide educational and medical aid. The federation’s deputy director, who is also the secretary general, Fang Tao, received the donation on behalf of the federation.

Shenzhen Yuezhong Investment Holding Ltd. donated 80 million yuan, Shenzhen NWY Group Ltd. donated 20 million yuan and Qianhai Zhifu Financial Holding Ltd. donated 15 million.

Fang later noted that it has become a trend for corporations to start reflecting on fulfilling their social responsibilities, and many enterprises make donations to the federation at the end of each year.

According to the report, the list was compiled by Star Satellite TV and Shenzhen Innovation Corporate Social Responsibility Development Center (CSRDC) under the guidance of the Shenzhen Municipal Politics and Law Committee as well as the Shenzhen Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau.

Dozens of companies in Shenzhen, Shanghai and other cities in China made it on the list and won multiple awards, including awards for outstanding enterprises, the companies with the best public credibility and the best innovative private equity investment institutions, among others.

Lin Chong, deputy director of Shenzhen Social Organization Management Bureau, said at the ceremony that Shenzhen is working on building a more philanthropic environment. The focus of charity work has shifted from aiding the poor to building a better community environment, said Lin.

Meanwhile, Lin also pointed out that the fast-growing charity groups and organizations are attracting talents from all walks of life, which is fueling the philanthropy circle.
