Art festival to kick off

The 15th ICIF Art Festival will kick off May 10 and run through June 29. Over 1,100 artists from 16 world-class artistic groups at home and abroad will bring 28 exquisite performances to audiences in Shenzhen.

This year’s art festival will receive a slew of big figures in the art circle, such as Grammy-Award winning pianist and conductor Christoph Eschenbach, morin khuur master Qi•Baoligao, and Jiao Yuan, a recognized drama queen from Hong Kong, according to a report on sznews.com.

The festival, featuring diametrically opposed art forms, will hold six different types of concerts including a symphony jointly performed by the Southwest German Radio Symphony Orchestra and Chinese violinist Ray Chen, a folk song concert by the Royal Danish Children’s Choir and a morin khuur concert by Qi•Baoligao Yema morin khuur music group.

A play, “Pingtan Impression,” directed by renowned Chinese dancer Yang Liping and which displays the cultural characteristics famed in Pingtan, Fujian Province, will also be staged.

Another play, “School of Rock,” is selected as the program to kick off the festival and will be present in the Shenzhen Poly Theater for three consecutive days.

Folk opera “Opera Choiceness,” or “Liu Sanjie,” will be put on in Shenzhen on May 19, at which technologies will be applied to model the landscape surrounding Lijiang River. Additionally, the Zhejiang Jing Kun Arts Center is invited once again to perform at the festival.

Other dramas adapted from classic Chinese literature, such as “Er Ma,” “Jinsuoji” and “The Peony Pavilion,” will also be on the festival.

The ticket prices have been set 10-percent lower than the market standard to bring more cultural benefits to residents, the report said.
