A series of skill contests and activities will be held between July and September in Shenzhen to select elite technicians from different trades and professions and offer a prize of 100,000 yuan (US$14,170) to each of them in addition to credentials.

The contest will coincide with the 10th Shenzhen Employees Technological Innovation Sports Meet organized by the Shenzhen Federation of Workers’ Union. The prize winners and participating units will have the chance to get Labor Day medals as well as honorary titles of innovative skilled workers and innovative advanced units.

The city-level contest is a rehearsal and preparation for the 46th WorldSkills Competition. The winners of the contest will participate in 41 events in eight categories of the preliminary contest in Guangdong Province, the Shenzhen Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau said yesterday.

The categories include architecture and structure, arts and creation, information and telecommunication, manufacturing and engineering, transportation and logistics.

In the Shenzhen contest, the organizers will run contest events such as 5G technologies and applications, design and testing of industrial Internet, and urban transportation signals.

The organizers will also organize Chinese-style cooking, nursing for elderly and home nursing contests as a way to support the city’s brand-name service projects like Canton Food Chefs and Canton Housekeeping.

The contest will be divided into categories for on-site employees and students of vocation schools.

Among the 40 events to be held in the city, the National Star of Craftsman Skill Contest, which will feature two events, namely electricity-powered loading operation at seaports and game design, will invite contestants from around the country.
