The 2021 Shenzhen-Macao Trade and Investment Exchange Conference was held in Macao Special Administrative Region (Macao SAR) on Thursday. About 180 officials and business representatives from both sides attended the meeting.
The purpose of the conference is to strengthen Shenzhen’s horizontal connection with other regions in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Greater Bay Area), accelerate the establishment of an important global business center, attract Macao enterprises to invest and develop businesses in Shenzhen and encourage more Shenzhen companies to invest in Macao and go global.
Wang Youming, director of the Shenzhen Municipal Commerce Bureau, introduced at the meeting the opportunities and advantages in Shenzhen as a pilot demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics, Shenzhen’s capability to cushion against risks and challenges and Shenzhen’s critical role in the global economy. He called on Shenzhen’s and Macao’s entrepreneurs to reinforce cooperation amid China’s “dual circulation” development pattern.
Zeng Pai, Party chief of Nanshan District, said Nanshan is one of the areas with the best quality of economic development, the highest number of top corporations and the best comprehensive business environment in China. He expected Nanshan, bolstered by numerous national strategies, could attract more attention and investments beyond China.
U U Sang (Vincent), executive director of Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, gave an introduction to new tax incentives in Macao, looking forward to further mutual solid support between Shenzhen and Macao in Chinese medicine R&D and manufacturing, finance, high technology, and exhibition and trade.
Deng Xueqin, president of Zhengzhong Real Estate Group, presented to the attendees Kexing Science Park. Zhengzhong Group runs the world-famous technology hub where 650 firms, including 19 listed enterprises, four unicorns, 150 national high-tech companies are located. The 2020 gross output of the science park is 165 billion yuan (US$25 billion).
Gu Ting from the Shenzhen Municipal Foreign Affairs Office also introduced and promoted World Innovation Cities Cooperation Organization, an NGO dedicated to global innovation cooperation and exchange.
Exchanges and cooperation between Shenzhen and Macao’s authorities began long before the launch of the Greater Bay Area policy in 2017. Since 2006, several Shenzhen-Macao High-level Cooperation Conferences have been held.
