Seven Shenzhen enterprises above designated size have moved into Guangdong Province’s top 10 list of digital creative companies in terms of operating revenue in the first half of the year, Shenzhen Economic Daily reported, quoting data from the provincial statistics bureau.

The other three enterprises among the top 10 are from Guangzhou.

Enterprises above designated size usually have a main business annual revenue of over 20 million yuan (US$3.08 million).

The data also indicated that the development of Guangdong’s 6,800 digital creative enterprises has retained a strong momentum in the early half of 2021, generating operating income of over 225.7 billion yuan, with a 24.5 percent increase year on year. In breakdown, digital creative technology facilities manufacturing contributes 28.1 billion yuan, while digital cultural and creative activities contribute 150 billion yuan and digital creative and integrating service contributes 35 billion yuan.

The combined operating revenue of the top 10 digital creative enterprises reached 99.8 billion yuan in the first half of the year, a growth of 25.2 percent year on year.

In recent years, the digital creative industry, which covers the whole process of industrial development of design, art, manufacturing, media and consumption, has become a vital part of economic and social development in the world. In its outline for the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), authorities in Guangdong Province set the target of building digital creative industry clusters, which will have the Pearl River Delta region as the core. Efforts will be made to push forward with the in-depth application of technologies such as 5G, artificial intelligence and big data, consolidate advantageous industries such as gaming, animation and design, expedite the development of new business models such as e-sports, livestreams and short videos and cultivate globally competitive leading enterprises and intellectual property.

By 2025, the operating revenue of Guangdong’s digital creative industry is expected to exceed 600 billion yuan.

Shenzhen’s achievements in the digital creative industry are outstanding, which is closely related to the city government’s efforts to build a global intelligent city, the Daily report said.

The city is now home to top digital creative enterprises like Tencent and Fantawild. The industry’s growth rate is significantly higher than Shenzhen’s GDP growth rate.
